My first gig wasn't so bad... indoors, air conditioningOK so the scenery wasn't as nice, well at least for me
it wasn't. The guys seemed to like it a lot.
As if anything matters now that I cant eat Maters, still I had meant to catch you up Brain, on the last couple weeks.
I spent a couple weeks in the Bahamas working on two different lighting gigs, the upshot of which were these hard won bits of wisdom. First, whoever invented Versa-Tubes needs to go back and do something about their feet! The clamps that you have to screw onto the bottoms of them are...uhh... not convenient or time saving to put it very mildly. The second is this; there is nothing worse than setting up a stage and 4 acres of area lighting in 98 degree 90% humidity weather unless it is setting up a stage and 4 acres of area lighting in 98 degree 90% humidity weather around a pool where everyone else is laying around relaxing on vacation. I have been paid back for boasting about working in the Caribbean. After my second 16 hour day outside in the horrible heat and humidity, dragging cable and cursing my blisters and the sweat that kept running into my eyes, I was ready to be working anywhere but the Bahamas. Thank God for the person, who, on day four of The-Gig-From-Hell, walked past me singing Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money" under their breath. It restored my sense of humor just in time, right before I went and bitch slapped some of the sunburned tourists lounging by the pool and stole their fruity drinks.
Returning home, Zoe and I started our lovely morning walks/runs along the trail by my house again. Yeah I can run for 45 mins in 90 degrees no problem. After the last gig, 90 degrees and 50% humidity for 45 mins seems like nothing. Remarkable what torture does for your sense of perspective.
The garden was looking a little droopy when I got home, but it was ALIVE! Sweet B. had kept his promise and faithfully watered everything. Have i mentioned i love my husband? The tomatoes were ripe and ready to pick. I picked and picked and made a huge batch of gazpacho and had mater in salads and on sandwiches... and that's when i found out that tomatoes are going to have to be off limits from now on, a tragedy that is still raw in my heart...
I must go on in spite of the loss...
Resin bee working on sealing up a nest hole in our solitary bee house.anyway, the solitary bee house that B. built is now in constant use by a number of different types of solitary bees. Yay! I'm having a lot of fun watching them coming and going. One of them, a large-ish carpenter-type bee is sealing the entrances to his chosen holes with a sort of sticky substance that looks like clear honey. I'll have to post a pic on BugGuide and see if someone can tell me what he is.
Just before i left for the Bahamas I went to the opening of Once Upon A Time an art show i am in with two other local artists.
I suppose that's it for now. It's hard to remember all the things i wanted to write about over the past couple of weeks. I'm sure at various points there was more, but its all gone now. Oh, yes, if i'm good I'll get out today and pick some prickly pear fruit to juice and make jelly out of. Maybe a post on that coming up.
